Kaia: New Layer-1 Blockchain from Kakao and LINE Launches Mainnet, Invites Telegram-Style Apps

Kaia, the highly anticipated Layer-1 blockchain developed by two of Asia’s leading messaging apps, Kakao and LINE, has officially launched its mainnet. The launch occurred at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the blockchain’s development.

According to a press release, the Kaia mainnet is touted as “the world’s fastest EVM blockchain,” featuring one-second finality, ultra-low gas fees, and backing from prominent Asian web3 partners, including Kakao and LINE NEXT. The blockchain’s development comes after a merger in April between Kakao’s Klaytn and LINE’s Finschia platforms. Together, Kakao and LINE command a massive user base of over 250 million people, with Kakao dominating the South Korean market and LINE leading in Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Kaia’s Layer-1 blockchain is designed to address challenges in web3’s user experience and distribution, leveraging its deep integration with Kakao and LINE’s messaging apps. The blockchain aims to build an ecosystem that supports decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, real-world assets, and web3-based messaging applications.

    Invitation for Developers

As part of its mainnet launch, Kaia is extending an invitation to developers to create mini decentralized applications (dApps) on the LINE messaging platform through its NEXT WEB software development kit (SDK). The platform seeks to introduce “Telegram-style native app integration,” offering a seamless user experience.

“Leveraging Kaia’s low TX latency, account abstraction, and fee delegation features, developers can create end-to-end seamless UX while extending their reach to hundreds of millions of LINE users across Asia,” the press release stated.

To support builders, Kaia is launching the Kaia Wave program, which will provide eligible teams using the NEXT WEB SDK with comprehensive support, including marketing, technical assistance, and business resources valued at $1.2 million per team. Additional incentives include opportunities for future token generation events and liquidity support.

    Token Launch

In conjunction with the mainnet launch, HashKey Global, a major cryptocurrency exchange, announced the listing of Kaia’s new token, also named Kaia. Trading for the token began on August 29, with HashKey offering a promotional event where eligible users can win 75,000 KLAY tokens.

The launch of the Kaia blockchain and its associated initiatives signals a significant development in the integration of blockchain technology with mainstream messaging platforms, potentially bringing web3 applications to millions of users across Asia.
