BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes made a bold statement, urging politicians to contribute positively to the cryptocurrency sector before considering financial contributions. Hayes referred to politicians as “vampires” and cautioned against blindly giving them money without seeing tangible support for the crypto industry.
Hayes attached a letter addressed to Jaime Harrison, the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and future Democratic presidential candidates. The letter, penned by Democratic Party officials and congressmen, highlighted the significant potential of digital assets and blockchain technology in fostering innovation, economic growth, and financial inclusion in the United States.
Despite some Democratic leaders recently supporting pro-digital asset legislation, the public perception remains that the Democratic Party holds a negative stance towards digital assets. This perception is largely due to the current attitude of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The letter suggests that a readjustment of the Democratic Party’s position could effectively change this perception.
The letter also underscored the importance of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in elections, particularly in key swing states. It noted that more than 20% of voters consider it a major issue in the upcoming 2024 election. This implies that a proper understanding and handling of this trend could significantly influence vote acquisition.
Furthermore, the letter emphasized that, compared to the current financial system that favors the elite, digital assets and blockchain technology could greatly enhance transparency, reduce fraud, and create a more inclusive financial system.
