Hopes of seeing the Dogwifhat meme, the face of the Solana-based token WIF, emblazoned on the Las Vegas Sphere have been dashed. A spokesperson for the iconic venue confirmed to Decrypt on Friday that no agreement exists with the Dogwifhat team, contrary to recent suggestions by the project’s organizers.
Earlier this week, the official Dogwifhat account on X (formerly Twitter) posted an image hinting at a Q1 2025 appearance on the Sphere, accompanied by the phrase “Officially confirmed. Viva hat vegas.” This announcement, later amended to remove the “officially confirmed” claim, fueled a 34.7% surge in WIF’s price, pushing it to $1.34 before settling around $1.30, according to CoinGecko.
However, a Sphere representative categorically denied any such deal, stating, “We have never had a deal with Dogwifhat, and our agency at the time only had one very preliminary conversation early last year. There was and is no plan for Dogwifhat to appear on the Exosphere, and we are distressed they are using our name for fraudulent purposes.”
This revelation follows a fundraising effort by Dogwifhat organizers in March 2024, which garnered nearly $700,000 from WIF supporters to finance the purported Sphere advertisement. The campaign contributed to the token reaching its all-time high of $4.83. However, the project faced increasing scrutiny in the following months due to a perceived lack of progress and transparency.
Adding to the intrigue, on-chain data reveals a recent transfer of $697,811 from the WIF Sphere multi-sig wallet to a new, unidentified wallet, shortly after the initial X post. A small amount of USDC was also sent from the unnamed wallet to a Coinbase wallet prior to the larger transaction.
