Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin by market capitalization (USDT), has announced it will discontinue support for its euro-pegged stablecoin, EUR₮. Holders have until November 27, 2025, to redeem their EUR₮ tokens. The company cited a strategic shift towards community-driven product support as the reason for the discontinuation.

In an official statement, Tether emphasized its commitment to maintaining a robust blockchain ecosystem. “At Tether, we remain dedicated to fostering a robust and innovative blockchain ecosystem for all Tether tokens we issue,” the statement read. “To fulfill this commitment, we are continuously assessing our stablecoin offerings, ensuring a balance between maintainability and usage while prioritizing community interest.”

The company explained that community interest and market conditions are central to its decision-making process. Tether highlighted its focus on ensuring user safety, usability, and sustainability for all its tokens, regardless of their backing.

Tether revealed it ceased minting EUR₮ in 2022, with the last acquisition request processed the same year. The company is no longer accepting new issuance requests for EUR₮.

Looking ahead, Tether is shifting its resources towards supporting new ventures, specifically highlighting its collaboration with Quantoz Payments. The company will now focus on supporting the launch of Quantoz’s MiCAR-compliant stablecoins, EURQ and USDQ, which will leverage Tether’s proprietary technology, Hadron.
